Molti pazienti affetti da ischemia critica d’arto non possono essere rivascolarizzati in modo convenzionale, cioè con bypass o angioplastica. In genere sono pazienti che presentano il fallimento finale dei piccoli vasi del piede, il cosiddetto “desert foot”.

In questi pazienti si può tentare, quando vi siano chiare indicazioni, l’arterializzazione delle vene del piede, quale ultima possibilità per evitare una amputazione maggiore.

Many patients suffering from chronic threatening limb ischemia cannot be revascularized in a conventional way, that is, with bypass or angioplasty. Generally, these patients present the final failure of the small vessels of the foot, the so-called “desert foot”.

In these patients, when there are clear indications, arterialization of the foot veins can be attempted as a last resort to avoid a major amputation.
